# HINTS
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_INTRO=
There's a book lying on the ground. It's tattered and damp, but the words are still legible.
[MADELINE left sad]
"A Climber's Guide to Grappling, Vol. 1"
[MADELINE left normal]
This might come in handy.
[]
This map explores several in-depth mechanics and interactions with the AQUA grapple hook.
As such, many gameplay rooms contain a {+BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT} that explains key mechanics, accessed through the menu.
It is intended to read through these if available, even if you're committed to self-routing!
Grapple boosts are not intended until taught.
Additionally, note that neutral jumps and climbing are disabled throughout the map. Stamina is set to 100. Ultra protection is enabled.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_01_01=
Grabbing the rope while below the hook's position puts you in {+BLACKLIGHT_ITB_SWINGSTATE}. While in {+BLACKLIGHT_ITB_SWINGSTATE}, you can jump midair, detaching the hook from its attached surface.
The trajectory of a grapple jump is determined by where in the swing the jump is performed. For example, jumping at the bottom of a swing will result in a more horizontal arc.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_01_02=
There are two important concepts you should know before attempting more difficult grappling maneuvers.
Firstly, you enter {+BLACKLIGHT_ITB_SWINGSTATE} while above the hook position if at 250 speed or higher (tangent to the arc).
Secondly, grapple jumps preserve momentum and add speed {# FF9523}in the direction of the jump{#}. Because of this, you will often want to jump immediately after a grapple lands.
Grappling gives freeze frames {~}after{/~} the grapple direction is decided, which lets you buffer a jump in a direction other than the grapple direction.
Note that the grapple direction does not affect buffered grapple jumps (but jump direction does).
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_01_03=
Remember that instant grapple jumps are a great way to preserve speed. Be creative with your grapple directions!
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_02_01=
You can release grab during a swing to loosen the rope, making a wider arc.
If you have Auto-Grab Rope enabled, now might be the time to try turning it off!
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_02_02=
Like normal grapple jumps, the arc of a dash cancel is determined by where in the swing the jump is performed.
A quicker jump is not always correct! Experiment with different jump timings for different situations.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_02_03=
Grapple direction is determined when the button is pressed. As such, you cannot redirect the grapple direction during freezeframes.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_03_00=
You can jump out of a grapple boost. All normal grapple jump rules apply.
Grapple boosts add to your current speed. Often, it's useful to be moving towards the hook before the boost to increase your speed.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_03_01=
Grapple boosts do not require grabbing the rope. Jumping out of one does, however.
Grapple boosts will result in slightly different trajectories depending on whether grab is held or not. The difference can be useful in certain cases.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_03_02=
Jumping multiple times quickly after a grapple boost will add jump speed for each, creating a large burst of speed.
Fitting in two jumps like this is referred to as a GBDJ (Grapple-Boosted Double Jump).
To do this, perform a grapple boost followed by a grapple jump and another jump (off of a floor or wall) in some order.
The timing for a grounded GBDJ is much tighter than one using a wallkick; rolling two jump buttons is recommended.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_03_03=
You can dash cancel out of a grapple boost.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_HINT_04=
The summit lies ahead, as does the most difficult terrain.
There's no going back now.
I believe in you.

[KIWI right normal]
Hey, {+BLACKLIGHT_ITB_MADELINE}! You wanna hear a {# FF9523}{~}grappling tip{/~}{#}?
[MADELINE left normal]
Sure!
[KIWI right normal]
Awesome!
Did you know you can fit a cornerboost into the window of a grounded GBDJ? With Goober Helper, you can get a GBTJwob and go flying backwards!
AQUA has so much potential!
[MADELINE left sad]
But Kiwi, I can't climbjump in this map...
And what's Goober Helper?
Or AQUA? Like the water in the pool over here?

This map is dedicated to Nebulae.
If you're reading this, thank you.
Not just for being an inspiration to myself, but to so many who hope to find joy and opportunity in all things Celeste.

BLACKLIGHT_ITB_DIALOGUE_ENDING_4=
[MADELINE left sad]
The first time you went off on a climbing trip, I was so scared.
I lost so much sleep, looking up ways you could outrun avalanches and dodge falling boulders.
Anything that might convince me you would come back to me safe.
And you did.
And you did again.
[MADELINE left sad]
I never stopped being scared, but I learned to be brave. For you.
[MADELINE left distracted]
...
When you got sick, I was convinced you'd pull through.
[MADELINE left angry]
You're a goddamn {~}mountain climber{/~}. You come back to me. That's what happens.
...
[MADELINE left distracted]
...
You were so brave, even until the end.
[MADELINE left sadder]
And I was so, so scared.
BLACKLIGHT_ITB_DIALOGUE_ENDING_5=
[MADELINE left sad]
I asked once why you climb these mountains.
Put yourself in so much danger, time and time again.
[MADELINE left distracted]
You didn't have an answer.
...
I think I get it now.
...
...
Let's sit here awhile.
